Warnock confirms interest in Liverpool full-back Clyne
Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has today confirmed his interest in signing Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne on loan in January.
However, he was keen to insist a deal is far from done and is concerned that the North-West club’s growing injury list could prove to be a problem.
As reported by Wales Online, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has several defenders currently on the sidelines ahead of their vital second half of the season.
Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who can both play at right-back, as well as centre-back Joel Matip are all unavailable at this moment in time meaning Clyne could return to the first-team fold.
The 27-year-old is yet to make a Premier League appearance this season having made just three last campaign.
A loan move would do the ex-Southampton star a world of good, but it remains to be seen whether Klopp will allow him to leave Anfield next month.
On Clyne, Warnock said:
Yes. I know Nathaniel. I gave him his debut, a lovely lad and I know his mother well she is a wonderful woman. The thing about that is they’ve had a lot of injuries, they are in European competition, the league and they’ve got to look after themselves. So at the moment, it’s very difficult to get anybody to commit to letting us have one for definite – 100 per cent.
We are finding that with everybody. He’d be one on our list definitely yes, we’re looking for that position but at the moment they have other problems. I don’t think they would bother about us at the moment, they have to look after themselves.
