With eight matches of the Premier League season remaining, Cardiff City are 18th in the table with 28 points to their name.
With Huddersfield Town and Fulham below them and almost certain to drop down to the Championship, the Bluebirds are fighting to avoid finishing 18th come the end of the campaign.
Their next five matches include clashes with teams at both ends of the table, meaning Neil Warnock’s men could have a real say in the title race and relegation dog fight.
Top-flight action returns this weekend with Chelsea visiting the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday afternoon before the Welshmen make the trip north to face defending Champions Manchester City next Wednesday.
That’s followed by trips to fellow strugglers Burnley and Brighton and Hove Albion within three days of each other, before completing this set of fixtures by hosting title-chasing Liverpool.
Without further ado, here’s how we think this quintet of matches will play out…
Cardiff City's next five fixtures
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has been the subject of much criticism this season with the West London club far from guaranteed a top-four finish.
However, they still possess world-class talent and can beat anybody on their day. In addition, they will be keen to avenge their defeat at Everton before the international break.
Prediction: Cardiff 1-3 Chelsea
Manchester City (A)
It’s hard to see anything other than a victory for Pep Guardiola’s men, who are involved in a two-way title battle with Liverpool.
The fact that they are still chasing the quadruple could be a hindrance though, and Cardiff must hope that complacency creeps into the Citizens if they are to get a result.
Prediction: Cardiff 0-3 Manchester City
This match is likely to be a key role in whether or not the Bluebirds beat the drop. Burnley currently occupy 17th in the table, two points ahead of Cardiff.
Their form has been indifferent this season, and they suffered a last-gasp defeat to Leicester City last time out.
Prediction: Burnley 1-2 Cardiff
Brighton are another team fighting for safety, and currently sit three places and five points ahead of the Bluebirds.
They’ve won their last two Premier League matches and have also progressed to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, which Neil Warnock will hope proves to be a distraction.
Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Cardiff
Jurgen Klopp’s men are aiming to win their first league title since 1990, and won’t want to drop points at home to a struggling side.
As with Manchester City, it’s hard to see Cardiff picking up anything from this match, particularly with the attacking talent available to the Anfield outfit and Cardiff’s defensive vulnerability.
Prediction: Cardiff 0-3 Liverpool
